If you are along time reader of ÇaFleureBon, you might remember that I met the founder Jean-Phillipe Clermont at Esxence 2015, where he launched the inaugural line of five perfumes, which are now part of the Black Collection. Seven years later, Firmenich perfumer Marie Salamagne continues on as the House’s The White Collection, The Rivera Collection, The Eaux Collection, The Extrait collection and now with Collection Frivolité, PINK ME UP! (reviewed by Olya Bar here) and the caviar-infused Atelier Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT. Like PINK ME UP, Ateliers Des Ors NOIR BY NIGHT uses a headspace technology proprietary to Firmenich called Nature Print.® Whereas PINK ME UP! is bright, bubbly fruity and floral, NOIR by NIGHT is rich, slightly green and a predominately woody fragrance with swirls of incense that weave in and out the opening of the composition. Despite the “caviar note”, I don’t detect any saltiness, or anything remotely aquatic. It is a wood symphony; Dreamwood © at the heart along with the sandalwood and guaiac form a woody triptyque that is polished and smooth. Cashmere Wood (aka Cashmeran©) with its slightly musky, spicy and sweet vibe rounds out the base. It is marketed as leaning masculine, but to me it is gender-fluid. – Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief
