Many of us in the USA will not be able to be with family and friends for the holidays this year. Not only because of the tri-demic, but the country is experiencing a “once in a generation” winter storm and travel plans have been disrupted. Add on bone chilling temperatures, freaky blizzards, gusting winds and that hundreds of flights have been canceled or delayed. Don’t let the weather stop you from enjoying festive fragrances. Perfumology BLYSS (Justin Frederico) 2017: Nir Guy, the owner of Perfumology composed Blyss as a fragrant love letter to his wife Lyssa. For me it brings to mind, sipping Chateau d’Yquem Sauterne, which wine connoisseurs consider the greatest of the Sauternes. Kelly +Jones MEZCAL AÑEJO (Steven Claisse and Kelly Jones) 2022: Mezcal is the newest sipping sensation, tequila’s smoking hot cousin and with Mezcal bars opening in most major cities. Hernando asked Kelly what’s the difference? “Mezcal is made from many different varietals of agave, and Tequila is from the Blue Agave typically from the Jalisco region. varietals from Oaxaca, with a smoky heart note.” This limited edition was created as a festive holiday fragrance that celebrates Mexico City, a city that Kelly Jones spent many years in her former job with Toyota. A portion of every Eau de Parfum sale goes to Programa Vaca, a Mexico-based organization helping to rebuild in the earthquake-affected rural areas with sustainable architecture and natural materials, for long term, positive human impact. INeKE Jaipur Chai (Ineke Ruhland) 2019: Ineke Ruhland, is a classically trained (she taught marketing to Givaudan’s Yann Vasnier at ISIPICA) artisan perfumer based in San Francisco and Jaipur Chai is her first gourmand fragrance. INeKE is a cozy scent with traditional chai tea spices of cinnamon, cloves topped by frothy steamed milk. The ginger smells freshly ground and along with pepper adds piquancy so that the fragrance never smells like it’s from Starbucks. Rounded with rose wrapped in suede, and polished by smooth woods – Jaipur Chai is the perfect scent to spritz during a blustery, freezing night when the lights are flickering and icy snow is piling on top of the window panes.
