Perfumer H: Charcoal
This is the Scottish forest scent. Piney, earthy, woody, a little smoky, but with the sweetness of young saplings. Incredibly, it’s pretty much all natural too. It smells calm, ancient and introspective.
CB I Hate Perfume: Wild Hunt
Smelling this I had probably the most visceral reaction to anything I’ve ever tried before. It’s probably the most photorealistic forest scent I’ve tried. Dirt, sweet ferns, mushrooms, moss, hot sap, mist, forest flowers. It really is perfect, but unfortunately it just dies a death on my skin after half an hour.
CB I Hate Perfume: Room with a View
Again, absolutely gorgeous. This one is a Mediterranean forest after the rain, with sweet fennel, dirt, hot sap and pine and loads of violets. Sadly does not really last, but performs a little better than Wild Hunt.
Oriza L Legrand: Chypre Mousse
To me, this is a perfect substitute to Room with a View. It has all the fennelly sappy sweetness with a massive dose of petrichor, mushroom and the floral notes turned up. It lasts forever and keeps evolving as you wear it.
Olympic Orchids: Olympic Rainforest
This one opens with a big camphorous blast that is a little overwhelming, but soon you are transported to a wet forest alive with mushrooms and sapplings sprouting, pine sap seeping and insects crawling under moss-cloaked rotting logs. The resins make it mysterious, in a way that walking through a very ancient forest can be.
Zoologist: Sloth
Another camphorous fragrance, this time producing a dense, overgrown forest smell. It’s a slow, creeping, ever evolving scent that’s a little dark and unsettling. This one feels like being lost in a tropical rainforest as night is falling.
Prin: Homa
The smell of animals (real and mythological) fucking in a forest at night. Divine.
EDIT: I forgot about this:
Monocle Scent 1: Hinoki
A spa in the middle of a pine forest. Raw pine saunas, massage oils, incense and conifer.
(I’ve tried most of pineward scents too, I’m not in love with them personally, but they’re defo worth a try if you love this genre)
