Authentic animal musks can last a long time, maybe years if applied correctly. Maybe not your targeted fragrance but they do last a long time, and they become sweeter the more they age…
Some mosques in the Middle East have had deer musk mixed into the lime plaster, and it is said that centuries later, the walls still emit a musky smell when the sun hits them.
I also do woodworking projects and there’s a few things I know that could help you achieve your goal.
First, walnut is an oily wood, scrub it a few times with a lint free cloth soaked in acetone or ethanol. Be careful of your glue joints these solvents can damage them. Masking tape will do. By eliminating the oils from your walnut, your scented oil will penetrate deeper into the wood pores.
I’ve tinctured castoreum and other animalics in jojoba oil and it works if you give it time, shaking and a warm place.
Many coats will definitely make it last longer. If you can include a piece of decorative cloth like satin or silk inside, it will help diffuse the smell also. Good luck !

Edit: Aged castoreum can smell sweet and spicy
