For 2023, MAC has expanded into high performance skincare, and have just launched a line of products that have specifically been designed to perform with makeup whilst delivering long-term skincare benefits. The hero product is the MAC Hyper Real Serumizer which I have been testing out. Here’s what you need to know.
What is MAC Hyper Real Serumizer?
The Serumizer is the hero product from the MAC Hyper Real skincare line for 2023. The other initial launch products include the Hyper Real SkinCanvas Balm Moisturising Cream* and the Hyper Real Fresh Canvas Cleansing Balm*.
For full information on the complete collection, read my MAC Hyper Real High Performance Skincare blog post.
I predict the MAC Hyper Real Serumizer to be the best seller because it’s a hybrid of both a serum and a moisturiser. If you like a simple, more pared back routine which is a clear skincare trend for 2023, then you will love it.
The blend of ingredients are worthy of inclusion in high performance anti-ageing products, so I think it ticks quite a few boxes.
- Designed to balance, retexturise and strengthen the skin barrier
- Features Hyper Real’s Pro-4 Power Infusion Matrix that combines Japanese Peony Extract, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides (read more here)
- Includes ultra-fine, light-diffusing pearlescent particles for glow with or without makeup
- Lightweight, non-greasy finish that doesn’t pill for flawless makeup application
- Designed to keep makeup looking fresh for 12 hours
- Tested on all skin tones
MAC Hyper Real Serumizer Demo Video
I made an application video so that you can see it in action. I think it demonstrates the kind of glow that the Serumizer gives the skin.
My Review
I was super excited to try this product because complexion is my favourite category of makeup and I often use skincare to enhance the performance of my makeup, as well as to deliver improvements to my skin.
The texture of the Serumizer is very appealing because it has the hydrating feel of a serum but with the longer lasting emollient finish of a moisturiser.
As you will see from the video above, it imparts a beautiful healthy-looking radiance and really quenches the skin with moisture. It feels soothing and calming and settles into the skin really nicely without any heaviness that some traditional primers can have.
It’s interesting that MAC never refer to it as a primer. This is because they have focussed on this being a true high performance, science-backed skincare launch, with the goal of creating the smoothest base for makeup and deliver skincare benefits over time.
I have tested it with foundation over it – I chose to use a non MAC product to see how this worked and went for one of my current favourites, the Shiseido Syncgro-Skin Self Refreshing foundation* in shade 310.
The foundation applied with even more effortless glide than usual, looked extra radiant, and lasted beautifully. If I have any more updates with other foundations, I will let you know!
