There are leather fragrances a plenty, but the new all-natural, vegan leather Rogue Perfumery L’Homme M.LaCroix is decidedly different. Before we get to Steven’s exclusive video interview with perfumer Manuel Cross, a few words on “leather.” Although there have been tinctures of leather, the fragrance of leather is actually constructed using different ingredients to create a ‘leather accord.” Leather perfumes often evoke places, such as Spain, France and Italy (Peau de’Espagne), Russia (Cuir de Russie) and Great Britain (Royal English Leather); some dating back to the 1700s. L’Homme M.LaCroix was inspired by people, specifically Manuel Cross’s descendants, “When I named my brand Rogue, it had a dual meaning. As an artisan perfumer, I dare to be different by going my own my way and Rogue also refers to my origin story. Two of my ancestors were driven from France and fled to Ireland in 1735. Generations of the Cross family quietly recounted stories about those “rogues” who engaged in nefarious smuggling activities, when they thought we kids weren’t listening. Rogue Perfumery L’Homme M.LaCroix is dedicated to Allen and Corneleius LaCroix. In keeping with the times, they lived in, I decided to work only with natural ingredients to create my first leather fragrance…”-Manuel Cross
Manuel Cross used only botanical ingredients and L’Homme M.LaCroix has excellent longevity and sillage as well as his signature vintage-vibe. It is the first leather-centric perfume for the brand and launched today, as I post, 12/1/22.
