The past couple of years I have noticed many retailers adding a shipping insurance charge, claiming that if you decline the charge they are not responsible for loss or damage by the carrier. Of course it is a ploy to pass any charges they can on to the customer, but wondering why it just popped up? I’ve ordered online for years and this is a new phenomenon. Luckyscent for example doesn’t charge it – I always assumed the retailer could get compensation from the carrier if an item was lost, misdelivered or damaged. Anyone have any insight on this phenomenon?
