The newest The Ordinary Moisturiser, Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan is their third. Which one is the right formulation for your skin type?
What are The Ordinary Moisturisers?
With the launch of The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan, there are now three different The Ordinary Moisturisers to choose from, and effectively one for every skin type:
- The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides – most ideal for those with dry, dehydrated skin (review here)
- The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA – most ideal for normal to combination skin (read about this in my full guide to The Ordinary)
- The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan – most ideal for oily skin (review here)
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides
What is it?
Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides is the most nourishing moisturiser available from The Ordinary.
Texture
This has a rich, luxurious creamy texture.
It has double the level of moisturizing emollients as the Natural Moisturising Factors + HA formula. Plant-derived PhytoCeramides help to make the skin look fresh, plump and hydrated.
Suited to
This one is ideal for those with dry skin. However, if you don’t strictly fit into this skin type but love a rich, luxurious texture, you could love this.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
What is it?
This is The Ordinary’s original moisturiser, and it was their only one for a long time.
Texture
It is a lightweight, oil-free cream that works to mimic the natural moisturising factors in the skin and top up hydration with Hyaluronic Acid.
Suited to
It is ideal for normal to combination skin types, and if you like a less dewy, more natural matte finish on the skin, this is the one for you.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan
What is it?
The newest addition to the collection. This provides topical delivery of skin-identical natural moisturizing factors, ceramides and beta glucan. Beta-Glucan has been shown to be 20% more hydrating than Hyaluronic Acid.
Texture
It is formulated as a super lightweight clear gel, designed to deliver hydration without a heavy or creamy texture.
Suited to
It is ideal for dry skin types.

The HA and Beta Glucan are good for day time if you are looking to control oil more.
What is Natural Moisturizing Factor?
Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF) is something that occurs naturally in the uppermost layers of the skin. It helps to keep the skin hydrated and healthy. Topical application of NMF helps to strengthen the skin’s surface and keep it supple and smooth.
The skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor depletes as a result of ageing, lifestyle and environment, and so it’s a good idea to topically supplement with products that contain NMF.
