…firstly two which evoke some nostalgia, good old school masculines, Insignia by Shulton. Very mossy piney fougere amber. The mossiness is excellent.
Also nostalgic, a deep vintage bottle of Musk for Men by Avon. One of my favourite spicy amber musks. Lots of cinnamon, nutmeg and probably some now banned materials. Somehow blended to stay second-skin clean although never getting into white musk territory.
I’ve made do with samples of Tiffany For Men for a long while, patiently waiting for a bottle to become available, but was able to get full bottles of both the EDT and Aftershave recently. Possibly my favourite sandalwood fragrance, but so much more than a sandalwood fragrance. Liquid amber opulence, thanks to the deft hand of Mr Polge Sr.
Last but not least was a rare blind buy for me…Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme. It lived up to the decriptions and reviews of many of the noses I trust here and elsewhere. An absolutely stunner. A creamy resinous amber – lavender blended exquisitely with incense, cedarwood and sandalwood which somehow wears with a feel, not scent of oud. AND manages to express some barbershop vibes as it dries down. George Zaharoff and Claude Dir made something truly special here.
Overall 2022 was a good fragrance year of discovery and rediscovery.
